Andres Iniesta has counselled Lionel Messi against thoughts of leaving Barcelona by saying the club and the player are perfect for each other.
Mundo Deportivo reports a brief interview Iniesta gave to an Argentinean outlet in which the subject of the World Cup – and Argentina’s chances of dethroning Spain – was raised, as was Messi.
“Argentina are a great team but there are a lot of rivals and many details along the way to decide who are champions,” Iniesta said.
“Leo is unique. We all know his quality and what he can do if he tries.
“Barca will never have another player like him and he’ll never find another club like Barca.”
Iniesta also touched on an old Barca colleague, former Argentina and Villarreal playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme.
“I was in the team and in training with Roman and it was a pleasure to see him every single day. I learned a lot,” Iniesta said of the Boca Juniors midfielder.
