Atletico Madrid are considering a move for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku to replace Stamford Bridge-bound Diego Costa, a report in Spain claims.
Mundo Deportivo say Atleti weighed up an offer for Lukaku last summer when Radamel Falcao left for Monaco but it was thought the Belgium international was too similar to Costa, with David Villa a better foil.
Lukaku subsequently joined Everton on loan but is unlikely to get a run in the Chelsea team now his temporary stay on Merseyside is over, with Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and most likely Costa all among Jose Mourinho’s options.
A fee of €25m is understood to be the starting point for talks regarding Lukaku’s future as Atletico aim to sign two strikers this summer. Villa has already left the club for New York City FC.
