Fabio Coentrao is to sign a new contract with Real Madrid that will see the left-back tied to the club until 2019.
Marca reports that Coentrao’s new deal will see him earn €4m a year, roughly the level of the average salary in the Madrid squad.
The terms of the contract run until the end of the 2018-19 season and the renewal wasn’t spurred by Coentrao’s performances to end the season. It was instead a pre-planned offer.
Coentrao moved to Santiago Bernabeu from Benfica in 2011 at a cost of €30m. He was one of the requests of newly-appointed Coach Jose Mourinho and initially signed a six-year contract.
