Barca turn to Higuain – report

Barcelona have identified Napoli’s former Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain as an alternative to Sergio Aguero.

Mundo Deportivo claims that Barca still consider Aguero their first choice option for a new forward but it is becoming clear that it will be impossible to convince Manchester City to sell.

Napoli would be far more open to a deal, however, although any more would still not be straightforward. The Serie A side a year ago paid Madrid €38m for the Argentina international and would require more than €40m to do business.

But that is substantially below the amount City would demand for Aguero, using Madrid’s signing of Gareth Bale as the standard. City are said to feel that if Bale cost Los Blancos €100m, Aguero couldn’t leave for anything less.

In Higuain Barca feel they have a player who is relatively young – 26 – but with a lot of experience of playing at the highest level. His Napoli salary is €4.5m and there’s a suggestion that Higuain would move to Camp Nou to prove to Madrid they were wrong to shove him out the door.
