Atletico trio in Uruguay WC squad

Uruguay have confirmed their squad for the summer’s World Cup with the South Americans including Luis Suarez and three Atletico Madrid players.

Suarez has recently undergone knee surgery and may not be fit for Uruguay’s Group D opener against Costa Rica.

But Coach Oscar Tabarez has named the Liverpool forward in his 23-man squad, along with Atletico Madrid trio Jose Maria Gimenez, Diego Godin and Cristian Rodriguez.

Diego Forlan, previously of Villarreal and Atletico Madrid but now plying his trade in Japan, is listed as well.

Cristian Stuani of Espanyol will also be in Brazil and there is a place for ex-Sevilla man Martin Caceres.

Former Villarreal midfielder Sebastian Eguren was among those cut from the preliminary squad.
