Miguel Angel Gil Marin has paid tribute to Atletico Madrid and Coach Diego Simeone for their title-winning season.
Marca reports that the Atletico chief executive said on the club’s official website that season 2013-14 will never be forgotten.
“All Atleticos should be extremely proud of what we have achieved,” he added.
“We have won the League title against the two most powerful teams in the world, we have reached the final of the Champions League and the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.
“It’s an unforgettable season.
“Simeone has managed to convince everyone that his philosophy could overcome any challenge.
“The entire group has taken on his message of game-to-game, you have to play every game as if it’s a final, and the results have proven him right.
“The group is above individuals and that’s been shown. Humility and hard work have been instrumental in winning the League.”
Gil Marin went on to say that it was a season to make any player proud and outlined the club’s targets for the coming campaign, denying Atletico have too much to live up to for the future.
“Any player would have signed up for a season like this in August,” he said.
“It should be taken as a challenge. We still have goals ahead and this should be one of them.
“I’m sure this group will fight hard again to reach another Champions League final.
“The League title gives us the opportunity next season to fight for a new trophy, the Supercopa, and that will be the first challenge.
“The team will follow the philosophy instilled by Simeone to face each game in the tournaments without thinking further.
“The club has always maintained that the goal should be to play in the Champions League because that will allow us to grow in every sense.
“In the last six years we have achieved great stability, playing nine finals and winning six trophies. That’s how we keep building a bigger Atletico.”
