Barcelona are looking for a cheaper central defender to go with the signing of Marquinhos and have picked out Sevilla’s Federico Fazio.
Mundo Deportivo claims Fazio has caught the eye of sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta, who wants someone with experience of playing in Spain.
Valencia’s Jeremy Mathieu was also considered but Los Che have made it clear during talks that they do not want to sell the France international.
Luis Enrique gave the go-ahead to pursue Mathieu and has done likewise regarding Fazio.
Fazio has been at Sevilla since January 2007 and his development has impressed both his current employers and prospective employers Barca.
The Argentine’s contract runs until 2018 and Mundo Deportivo make no mention of a potential transfer fee.
