De Gea: Spain are the best

David De Gea believes Spain are still the best team in the world and hopes the defending champions show it at the World Cup.

The Manchester United goalkeeper has been named in La Roja’s squad for the tournament after Victor Valdes’ knee injury forced Vicente Del Bosque to look for alternatives.

Pepe Reina and Iker Casillas are the other goalkeepers in the squad and De Gea wished Valdes well as he recovers from the injury.

“I haven’t spoken to him but the injury is a shame. I send him a hug and wish him a speedy recovery,” De Gea said.

“This team is the best in the world and hopefully we can win the title.

“I’m happy to be here. In the Under-21s I played good football for several years, trying to play the same game as the best and with some very good players.

“It’s been a long and hard season for many of the national team players but they are the best in the world and hopefully we can win the title.”
