Courtois future still unclear

It’s still not yet known where Thibaut Courtois will be playing next season, Atletico Madrid or Chelsea.

Marca reports that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho may want Courtois back at Stamford Bridge to account for the injury suffered to Petr Cech towards the end of the season.

Cech has undergone surgery on a shoulder problem and may not be ready to return for the start of the new campaign.

Atletico want Courtois for a fourth year on loan while Courtois wants to be first choice wherever he plays.

“I don’t want to go to Chelsea to play the FA Cup and League Cup,” the Belgium international is quoted as saying.

“It’s not an option. I’ve said many times we will seek a solution. I don’t think it’s good to have two goalkeepers like Cech and me.”

Courtois has added that he feels a lot closer to Atleti than Chelsea but took questions at a Belgium Press conference in English, rather than Spanish.

“Cleary I am very attached to Atletico, a team who have taken a lot of care of me, while with Chelsea I have no emotional attachment,” he said.

“I lived three unforgettable years in Madrid and I’ll always carry Atletico in my heart and the great affection for the fans.”
