Neymar has defended Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi from criticism, telling Brazilian television that Messi is the solution to Barca’s ills, not the problem.
Sport reports Neymar speaking with Globo in an interview that touched on the forthcoming World Cup as well as the season just gone.
It was Neymar’s first at Camp Nou and ended with Barca in second place, the Catalans failing to claim a trophy.
The year was turbulent at Barca, with controversy over Neymar’s arrival, the resignation of President Sandro Rosell and the coming and going of Tata Martino, who has since been replaced as Coach by Luis Enrique.
Messi was even the target of criticism but Neymar has insisted he will always be by Messi’s side.
“Everyone sees the failure of a way. In my opinion, Messi is the best player I’ve ever seen,” Neymar said.
“I’ve never seen anything like it. If I say something, I will defend it to the death. He was our solution, never our problem.”
