Luis Enrique is said to consider Javier Mascherano an important part of his Barcelona plans and wants the Argentine to ignore interest from Napoli.
Sport reports that it was thought Mascherano was almost out of the Camp Nou door, with Rafael Benitez making his former Liverpool charge his primary target for the summer.
The Napoli President has said Mascherano might be out of the club’s price range but did confirm the club’s intention to sign the defender-midfielder.
But Mascherano’s agent is due to meet Barca’s sporting director and could extend his client’s contract. Mascherano’s deal is due to expire in 2016 but a year could be added to his terms.
Sport add that Napoli first tried to get Mascherano in January.
