Jesus: No Benfica coincidence

Benfica Coach Jorge Jesus believes it is no coincidence his side are back in the Europa League final and has paid tribute to the club's project.

The Lisbon side tonight face Sevilla in Turin and have the opportunity to win their third trophy of a highly successful season.

They will also be looking to make amends for defeat in last year’s final, against Chelsea, but the tactician said the disappointment 12 months ago could be an advantage this time.

“We have been trying to take the same journey as we did last year,” Jesus said at a Press conference. “It gives me satisfaction to be involved when it really matters.

“We have already won things and now we have a chance to win again. We are concentrated and confident that we can win.

“Our experience in finals has an emotional effect on you. It is not a problem but it is not an advantage either. But it has given us greater assuredness and calm this time around.

“We will be facing a strong opponent with history. It will be a hard-fought match and I don’t see any favourites.

“Our project has been one we have been working towards for five years and we think that our results reflect the decisions we have made. Benfica are not here by accident and that reinforces our quality and prestige.

“Our motivation is total. The Benfica support is unique, few teams in the world have support like it.

“Whether we’re at home or away, Benfica always play at home.”
