Messi: Special to win World Cup

Lionel Messi has rejected the suggestion he has to win the World Cup to be football’s best ever player but admitted it is his goal.

Marca reports Messi speaking with Argentine publication Ole on the subject of the summer tournament.

The Argentina captain added he isn’t concerned about representing the Albiceleste in Brazil, one of his country’s historic football rivals, and expects a strong Argentine support regardless.

“I think there are many players considered the best ever without a World Cup,” Messi said.

“Obviously winning a World Cup is a positive and it would be very special.

“I hope we are in Rio [the site of the final], enjoying the day there, being able to enjoy what is enjoyable about the trip that day.

“Hopefully we can touch that final.

“The truth is I don’t think about it much. I can’t imagine. But I know Brazil will be full of Argentines since it’s so close.

“There is the desire to realise the dreams people have.”
