Messi camp denies Aguero claim

Jorge Messi, the father and agent of Barcelona’ Lionel Messi, has insisted there is no truth in the report his son asked Barca to sign Sergio Aguero.

It had been claimed that as part of the talks between the Messi camp and the club, Messi asked for Barca to sign Manchester City’s Aguero, and retain goalkeeper Jose Pinto.

But AS reports Jorge Messi as issuing a strenuous denial, insisting that there would never be an attempt to interfere in the transfer activity of Barca and especially not after the season the club is enduring.

“The meeting was held to address contractual issues. There was no talk of specific figures,” Messi sr. said.

“The Vice-president of economic affairs, Javier Faus, and the director general Antoni Rosich were present. These aren’t football men. They’re men of numbers.

“It would be pointless to argue with them about sporting subjects.

“On a pure question of respect for the players I can’t try to improve my son’s contract with this sort of thing.

“Especially not after a season like Barca have had in terms of trophies.”

Messi also insisted that he and Faus had made amends after Faus allegedly complained that Messi’s contract ‘had to be improved every six months.’
