Lionel Messi could sign a contract extension at Barcelona this week, according to reports in the Spanish Press.
Marca reveal on Tuesday that the Ballon d’Or winner will sit down with the Blaugrana at some point before this weekend, and put pen to paper on a new deal.
The contract will see the Argentina international become the highest-paid footballer in the world – he currently earns €16m per year.
The deal will be a one-year extension, meaning Messi will tie himself to the Camp Nou outfit until 2019.
Stories had emerged last week that Manchester City could come in with a €200m bid after they had reason to believe the 26-year-old was stalling on an extension.
But the Madrid-based sports daily insists that his not the case, with a contract to be signed soon.
