‘No Chelsea offer for Costa’

Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo has rejected claims Chelsea are on the verge of signing Diego Costa.

It was rumoured last week that the deal to take the Spain international to Stamford Bridge was all-but agreed, but Cerezo has told Spanish radio that there has been no contact from the Blues.

He added that he wouldn’t welcome any contact anyway, and certainly not while the season is on-going.

“It’s not the time to talk about signings. There are three very important games ahead,” Mundo Deportivo reports Cerezo as saying.

“Diego Costa was signed when he was 18, almost a child, and nobody guessed what he would be today.

“Chelsea? We don’t want to know when these games are so important. We don’t want to destabilize the team and we can talk about this later.

“I can say that there is nothing, not officially, from another club to one of our players. They’re not on their way to another team.

“If the question is ‘is there a deal for Costa’ then we haven’t heard anything.”
