Atleti clean sheet ‘important’

Atletico Madrid sporting director Jose Caminero says the fact his side did not concede an away goal to Chelsea could be all important.

The two sides meet at Stamford Bridge tomorrow in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final, with the score locked at 0-0.

“It was positive to not concede any goals,” Caminero is quoted as saying by AS. “It gives us the chance to go to London knowing that it is in our hands.

“Away from home we have played some very good matches, in which we have also not conceded.

“The good thing is that we didn’t concede at home and now any victory or score draw will get us through.

“We need to go for everything now, that is clear. There is only a short time left in the season and we now have a match that could allow us to reach the final of the Champions League.

“Everyone’s focus, including the players, is on this period. We need a final push to achieve what we have been fighting for this season.”

The director also refused to criticise the style of opposition Coach Jose Mourinho.

“I wouldn’t say it is an ultra-defensive style. It is a way of playing that has a place in modern football.

“With the quality of players he has, they are able to adapt to what the Coach asks them to do out on the pitch.
