Luis Enrique believes Celta Vigo badly need to beat Real Valladolid tonight to finally stave off any lingering relegation fears.
A victory would confirm Celta in the top flight for another season and Enrique has told his pre-match Press conference that controlling expectations has been one of his most difficult tasks this season.
“We need to beat Valladolid. It will be a tough opponent who are in dire need of the points,” Marca reports Enrique as saying.
“We’re united with a huge desire to continue the good work throughout the year. Mathematically we are close to staying in the Division.
“We’re in the home stretch, taking the last three or four strides, to reach our goal.
“Often in these cases it’s more difficult to control the excessive euphoria and the excess desire to do well.
“We’ve never speculated and it would be meaningless to do it now.”
Enrique also touched on the death of Tito Vilanova, a former colleague at Barcelona who passed away on Friday from throat cancer.
“It’s very sad news for everyone. My sincere condolences to his family and friends,” Enrique said.
“It’s very hard news from someone who has been struggling for two years against a terrible disease that unfortunately still costs many lives.
“When you hear this news you get a knot in your stomach.”
