Perea hoping for Atletico reunion

Former Atletico Madrid defender Luis Perea hopes to play his old team in the Club World Cup later this year.

Perea now represents Mexican side Cruz Azul and helped the club to victory in the CONCACAF Champions League this week, their first title in 17 years.

Should Atletico beat Chelsea to reach the final of the Champions League and then overcome the winner of the Real Madrid vs. Bayern Munich semi-final, they would qualify for the Club World Cup in December.

This year’s tournament is to be held in Morocco and will feature the winners of the Copa Libertadores and the triumphant teams in the UEFA, CONCACAF, AFC, CAF and OFC Champions Leagues.

Also joining the competition will be a local representative, the winners of this season’s Moroccan League.

“It would be a joy to play against Atletico at the Club World Cup,” Marca quotes Perea as saying.

Perea spent eight years as an Atletico player, joining from Boca Juniors in 2004 and leaving for Cruz Azul in 2012.
