Martino could stay at Barca – report

Tata Martino could remain at Barcelona for the final year of his contract after meeting with Andoni Zubizarreta.

Marca reports that the Coach and the sporting director met recently and discussed the season so far.

At the meeting it is said that it was acknowledged that Barca have failed to achieve any of their objectives for the campaign, with the League title now only a mathematical possibility.

Barca are expected to undergo an extensive overhaul this summer and it was thought a new Coach would be part of that.

However, Zubi is said to have expressed a desire for some continuity while the feeling is that the circumstances of Martino’s first year at Camp Nou got the Argentine off to a bad start.

There have been instances of coaches doing the same job, a legacy of the staff who remained after Tito Vilanova stepped down and Martino’s men were appointed.

Barca also want a Coach in place during the transfer window to offer technical supervision, with new signings the second priority behind a new contract for Lionel Messi.

Martino is also desirous of a full pre-season to work with the players, particularly those who will remain in the squad from this season.

A further factor in the increased possibility that Martino remains is Barca’s inability to line-up a successor. It is said that Barca have winked at Jurgen Klopp, the Borussia Dortmund Coach, but there has been no response.

Other Coaches are said to have no intention of leaving their current posts while the likes of Ernesto Valverde and Luis Enrique have been considered, but are considered risky appointments.
