Valencia Coach Juan Pizzi does not believe his side’s 2-0 loss to Sevilla was a fair reflection of their performance.

The tactician added that he was proud of his players’ efforts in the Europa League semi-final first leg and insisted they could overturn their deficit in the return match.

He also refused to comment on the hosts’ first goal of the evening, which saw Stephane Mbia score despite clearly being in an offside position.

“I am sad because we gave everything but got nothing,” Pizzi reacted after the match in Andalusia. “They got themselves ahead and we couldn’t.

“But I am proud with the way we played out on the pitch. Logically though, after a defeat you always have feelings of sadness.

“What happened for the first goal shaped the whole match. I don’t think I need to clarify my thoughts on it because it wouldn’t be convenient for me or my team.

“But the television evidence is there for all to see.

“I am very pleased with the team and with the fans who supported us. I am sure that we will get back into the tie at the Mestalla.

“Today’s result does not reflect the match.”
