Emery focused on Europa League

Unai Emery has said his attention is firmly on Sevilla’s Europa League meeting with Valencia and not the next League game, against Athletic Bilbao.

A win over Athletic would bring Sevilla level on points with the Champions League chasers and send Emery’s side into fourth on the basis of the head-to-head record after the first game between the sides this season was drawn.

“We rely on what we do. We’re a strong fifth place and we’ll see what comes next so we’ll prepare for the Bilbao match, but our sole focus is Valencia,” Marca reports Emery as saying at his post-match Press conference after Sevilla beat Granada 4-0.

“The game will be very even because Valencia are a great team. It would be wrong to make Sevilla favourites because of the League positions.

“We have to prepare for the game against Valencia in the best possible way.”

Emery added that as far as the win over Granada went, it was the first goal that was crucial.

“They’re an opponent that doesn’t give you a lot and it was important to open the scoring,” the Coach continued.

“We found a goal. True, it was an own goal, but we were looking for it. Then came the second, which we also took advantage of, and at 3-0 we were much higher.”
