Aguirre braced for tough game

Javier Aguirre believes Espanyol are in for a difficult encounter on Sunday against Rayo Vallecano.

The Coach pointed to the goals in Paco Jemez’s side as evidence they are a dangerous opponent.

“Rayo comes from scoring in seven games, except against Real Madrid, and won’t make things easy,” Marca reports the Mexican as saying at a pre-match Press conference.

“They’re a tidy team, in good shape, and it’s essential for us to win.

“I don’t care that I don’t have many defenders, even against Sevilla.

“To lose 4-1 is the fault of the Coach and the defensive work of everyone. No single player or specific names.”

Asked why he has been reluctant to dip into the Espanyol youth ranks, Aguirre replied he wouldn’t blood a youngster for the sake of it.

“In the times I’ve given a debut to a player from the cantera it’s been club policy, the needs of the team or because he is a great player and it’s time,” Aguirre said.

“I won’t give someone 15 minutes for the sake of it. If they get a debut it’s because they’re here to stay.”
