‘Simeone is a leader, a motivator’

The man who gave Diego Simeone his first job believes that the Atletico Madrid man could leave for Inter.

Pietro Lo Monaco hired the Argentinian as Coach of Serie A side Catania back in 2011, and after watching him progress in the Spanish capital, believes that a future back in Italy is not out of the question.

“Simeone has to leave Atletico Madrid as a winner and start again at a club that shares his features,” Lo Monaco told Tuttosport.

“A team of blood, of strong passions, perhaps that he can revive. Like Inter, even if there is already a good Coach in Walter Mazzarri.

“I am glad for Simeone for what he is doing but also for us, that we were right at Catania to give him the bench a few years ago.

“We called him at Racing and decided together that it was right that we went for him. It is a duty of a club like Catania to focus on talented young Coaches, to launch them and know when it is the right time to let them go.

“Simeone is a leader, he drags the team and creates a group with the players. He is a lot like Mourinho, an exceptional Coach in psychological and motivational terms.

“Everyone loves him, he is a non-playing captain. He is one of those who weighs in with his personality, as was the case when he was previously on the field.”
