Mourinho ‘would enjoy’ Madrid tie

Jose Mourinho has said that while he isn’t hoping Chelsea are drawn to play Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals, he’ll enjoy it if they are.

Chelsea beat Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 at Stamford Bridge last night to go through via away goals after the tie ended 3-3 on aggregate.

Madrid were beaten 2-0 on the night by Borussia Dortmund but progressed thanks to their 3-0 win in the first-leg.

The clubs will be joined by the winners of the games between Bayern Munich and Manchester United and Atletico Madrid and Barcelona which take place tonight. Both matches are level at 1-1 from the first-leg.

AS reports that Mourinho first welcomed the prospect of facing his former club, but then backed away from the potential meeting.

“If we play Madrid we’ll enjoy it,” he told the television reporters.

Mourinho was asked by the Press if he fancied playing Los Blancos and he took a more diplomatic stance.

“I fancy whoever the draw gives us,” Mourinho replied.

“There were eight very strong teams in the quarter-finals and it almost didn’t matter who you played.

“All four teams in the semi-final will be very strong. That’s what I expect, a strong rival.

“The important thing is that [Chelsea] are among the strongest.”
