‘Costa must be at 90 per cent’

Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone says all his players must be at a minimum of 90 per cent fit to play for him.

The Argentine was responding to questions over whether striker Diego Costa would play against Barcelona in tomorrow’s Champions League tie.

“We will see what condition he is in at training,” Simeone told the assembled media. “If he doesn’t play Adrian will and I am sure he will do very well.

“The team needs a player who is at a minimum of 90 per cent. A player at 50 per cent does no good, whether that be Miranda, Godin or Diego Costa.

“Adrian is in good shape and I am sure that tomorrow he will score a goal!”

Simeone then discussed the match against Barca further.

“Barca will not change their style of play. They are always looking to score and control the game.

“Let’s not forget that a short while ago they scored four goals somewhere near to here!

“Every team has its strengths. They look for quality and possession. We look for spaces on the counter-attack.

“It’s one of the best matches you could watch in the Champions League.

“The Calderon is one of those different stadiums. The energy that the crowd provides could be decisive.

“I’m not talking about pressure, but responsibility. Pressure is on someone who urgently need money to be able to feed their children.”
