Aguirre: I won’t discuss referee

Espanyol Coach Javier Aguirre has refused to talk about the referee after his side were beaten 1-0 by Barcelona.

Lionel Messi scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot, given by Carlos Clos Gomez after a handball by Javi Lopez.

Espanyol also had goalkeeper Kiko Casillas sent off and having used all of their substitutes, had to put Lopez in goal.

“I don’t talk about the referee. I don’t talk about the referee,” Aguirre repeated when asked about the official by reporters.

“Until the penalty the team lived up to the big occasion. I’m very proud of the players.

“We must thank the people who were right at their height. It was a nice day but you can’t be happy.

“The team gave what they had and tried, tried, tried. Until the penalty, of course.

“The fans will also be proud of these players. The club forces you to be emotional.

“Until the penalty the game was open for both sides, without detracting from the opponent, whom I congratulate for the win.”
