Emery wants Sevilla to push on

Unai Emery has called on his Sevilla side to use Wednesday’s win over Real Madrid as a springboard for this season.

A Carlos Bacca double gave Los Rojiblancos victory after Cristiano Ronaldo’s free-kick – deflected by Bacca – put the title challengers in front.

Speaking to reporters after the match Emery admitted he was delighted with the result but warned it would be for naught if Sevilla slipped up in their next fixture.

“It’s not every day you beat Real Madrid,” Emery said.

“We’ve made history with six consecutive wins but we can’t let the euphoria confuse us.

“We’re fifth and we have to strengthen ourselves in that position. We’ve done something important but the most important thing is still to come.

“We’re happy with our work but we know as one game ends, another begins.

“This win over Madrid will be worthless if we don’t beat Celta Vigo.”

Emery was reluctant to single out individuals after the win over Los Blancos, citing the efforts of the team as more crucial to their success.

“Madrid raise the bar and but if you persevere and have faith you can find ways to beat them,” the Coach continued.

“I’d like to praise the whole team for their ability to sacrifice as well as their individual qualities.”
