Iniesta: Madrid-Barca is war

Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta says clashes between his side and arch-rivals Real Madrid are the footballing equivalent of war.

The teams face off at the Bernabeu this Sunday with the Catalan side in particular knowing they cannot afford to slip up.

“It’s not been an easy season,” Iniesta said to El Larguero.

“There have been a lot of things said about us and a lot of changes. It is proving to be a bumpy ride.

“Now we have a hard game, but also a great one. We have to go all out to win against Madrid.

“We wanted to beat Osasuna while playing well and now we have to believe we can win at the Bernabeu.

“Real-Barca clashes are the football equivalent of war.

“What has happened in the past is water under the bridge.”

The 29-year-old then revealed his gratitude for the support he has received since his wife had a miscarriage last week.

“When you’re down and having a hard time and you get so much affection from people you don’t even know, it gives you the strength to carry on.

“My wife and family are all grateful for the affection we have received.

“I have received some messages of support from the Real Madrid players.

“Some things are more important than a football match.”
