Alexis: Messi? What can I say…

Alexis Sanchez was at a loss for words when asked to describe the contribution of Lionel Messi after Barcelona’s 7-0 win over Osasuna.

The Chile winger scored once but Messi got a hat-trick to become Barca’s all-time leading goal scorer and emphatically move Barca back four points adrift of League leaders Real Madrid with the Clasico to come on Sunday.

“Messi? What can I say…,” Alexis replied when asked post-match by reporters about his Argentine teammate.

“He’s scored three goals, played a great game, broken another record…he’s a great player.”

Alexis was less awestruck regarding other topics, such as the match as a whole.

“We played a great game and I’m satisfied with my performance, with a goal and an assist.

“We must acknowledge the support of the people.

“The victory is important because we are still four points behind Madrid.”

Barca travel to Santiago Bernabeu next weekend and Alexis wants to return to Catalonia with three points.

“I think if we beat Madrid at the Bernabeu we put ourselves squarely in the fight for the title,” Alexis added.

“We’re both favourites, two of the biggest clubs in the world but it’d be nice to win there.

“We’re going to the Bernabeu with a unique opportunity to win.”
