Calderon: Players deserve derby win

Real Betis Coach Gabriel Calderon has praised his players after the 2-0 Europa League win over local rivals Sevilla.

Goals from Leo Baptistao and Salva Sevilla gave Betis victory at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and speaking at his post-match Press conference, Calderon laid the credit for the triumph at the feet of his squad.

“We played a very complete game and I’m delighted for the players,” Calderon said.

“They have shown great sacrifice and are true professionals.

“The team feels a lot better now and we keep improving. But we have to recover quickly because we have another important game on Sunday.”

Calderon added that preparation was what delivered the result.

“We know how Sevilla play and we studied them in detail,” he continued.

“The players applied what we worked on to perfection. We didn’t make the same mistakes as when Sevilla won 4-0.”

Calderon however warned that the tie is not over, with the return leg to come at Benito Villamarin.

“The job is only half done. There’s a lot to do in the other game,” Calderon said.

“We have a great advantage but if we scored two goals here, they could do it at our home. We’d be wrong to think the job is done.”
