Gabriel Calderon has described Real Betis’ current situation as ‘very sad’ after relegation was followed by defeat at home to Real Sociedad.
A Carlos Vela penalty was enough to deliver the points to La Real in a match that saw Betis already relegated before kick-off due to other results.
“You always think you can stay up,” Marca reports Calderon as saying after the match.
“It’s a very sad time for all Beticos.
“These three months I always thought we could and I am very sad because I know what it means to these people.
“It’s a reflection of a very bad year and now more than ever Beticos must be united.
“We have an obligation to this support, which is extraordinary.”
