Former Mexico striker Cuauhtemoc Blanco has criticised Real Sociedad’s Carlos Vela for not playing for the national team.
Vela’s Mexico future was in doubt until recently when it was confirmed he would not be considered for selection at the World Cup.
Blanco however feels that Vela is wrong not to represent his country and made his feelings clear on Spanish television.
“Vela is an idiot,” Blanco said.
“He’s a fool for not going [to the World Cup]. It’s his decision and we have to respect it, but it’s stupid.
“If I had gone to try and convince to the so-and-so, what if he didn’t come even then? Could I force him?
“He needed some straight talk: ‘You know what? You’re an idiot if you don’t go,’”
