Villarreal ‘not good at all’

Villarreal Coach Marcelino has criticised his team’s performance in the 1-1 draw with struggling Real Betis.

The result leaves the Yellow Submarine six points behind fourth-place Athletic Bilbao and Marcelino said there was little reason to take comfort from the fixture.

Ikechukwu Uche was sent off with 10 minutes to play and Marcelino hit out at his side’s inability to maintain the advantage.

“We haven’t been good at all,” Marcelino told his post-match Press conference.

“We had an unusual first half in attack and in defence. It was hard for us to recover the ball and we weren’t precise enough.

“We improved in the second half and scored the goal but we failed to hold on to the lead.

“Despite holding on with 10 men we’re disappointed with ourselves.

“Getting a point is better than losing but not as good as winning.

“When you have to change things around so much because of injuries it makes things more complicated and it’s hard to get any consistency.

“But the team deserves plenty of credit for what it’s doing – we’re higher up than anyone could have predicted.”
