Sevilla not thinking of the table

Sevilla Coach Unai Emery has said his side just go out to win matches and not improve their League position.

The Andalusians beat Real Sociedad 1-0 on Sunday night with a goal from Kevin Gameiro, the three points closing the gap between Sevilla and La Real.

Sevilla are seventh and with Barcelona and Real Madrid meeting in the Copa del Rey final, seventh will be enough for a Europa League place, but Emery insists Sevilla are only focused on the 90 minutes.

“We go to win, without looking at the table,” Emery said at a post-match Press conference.

“Now we look at the match with Almeria and only that, and then later we’ll see the table.

“[Against La Real] we wanted to be patient, to compete for 90 minutes, to keep a clean sheet and take advantage of our chances,” Emery continued.

“After we scored they hardly had any chances to equalise.

“We must try to play to our best qualities and strengthen our options over the opponent.

“Carrying the weight of the game today was not easy because the opponent pressed us.

“They left their positions to get the ball and have dangerous players, as we learned last season.

“One of their main weapons is pressure but today our rival didn’t get the chance to do that very much.”
