Calderon: Betis ‘helpless’ against refs

Real Betis Coach Gabriel Calderon has hit out at the standard of refereeing in La Liga after his side drew 1-1 with Villarreal.

Villarreal had a Ikechukwu Uche sent off with 10 minutes to go but Calderon was unhappy with the penalty awarded to the Yellow Submarine, claiming it is the latest case of decisions going against his side.

“A point means little to us,” Calderon told his post-match Press conference.

“It’s another Sunday where we’ve had to fight against forces we can’t win with.

“The team has shown it has men worthy of playing for this club so I congratulate the players.

“But it’s so clear it’s saddening. We’ve deserved six points in the last two games and referees have cost us five.

“What’s happening with referees is not what we expect of this League.

“All we ask is that debateable decisions don’t always favour our opponents.

“The players feel helpless. They’d give everything to bring joy to the fans but they’re not getting any.

“We have to keep going the way we have been and hope we’re allowed to win on the pitch.”
