Pizzi: Xavi deserves Ballon d’Or

Valencia Coach Juan Antonio Pizzi has said it’s ‘an injustice’ that Xavi Hernandez has never won the Ballon d’Or.

Pizzi was speaking at a Press conference prior to Valencia’s game with Rayo Vallecano and aside from discussing the fixture and his team’s form and fitness, the subject of the Barcelona midfielder was brought up.

“That Xavi doesn’t have a Golden Ball at home is an injustice,” Pizzi said.

Reflecting on Sunday’s trip to Rayo, Pizzi added that he is hoping the momentum of progressing through to the next round of the Europa League continues domestically.

Pizzi is, however, concerned about the effect of the run of games on his side.

“We have tried to recover those who played on Thursday and put together a competitive team that will enable us to win in Vallecas.

“The proposal of most Coaches is playing well but there are other factors to be considered in a football team,” Pizzi added.

Pizzi was asked if playing Rayo would constitute a straightforward three points but the Argentine insisted otherwise.

“We repect everyone the same and I see no easy games. Dedication and the demands on the players are always the same,” he said.
