Jorge Valdano has criticised Jose Mourinho for not being successful enough during his time at Real Madrid.
Speaking while on a book tour of Guatemala, Valdano, who left his boardroom post at Santiago Bernabeu after a fall out with Mourinho, claimed the former Coach didn’t win enough trophies.
“[Mourinho’s time] was below the historical average of Madrid,” Marca quotes Valdano as telling a local newspaper.
Madrid won three trophies in Mourinho’s three years in the capital – the Copa del Rey in 2011, the Supercopa de Espana in 2012 and the League title in 2011-12.
Valdano, a former Madrid player and Coach, joined the board when Florentino Perez was re-elected, only to step down in 2011 after his row with the Portuguese.
As Coach Valdano won the League title in 1995, as well as winning two League titles during his playing days.
Valdano added that he is making a documentary about Barcelona’s Lionel Messi but would not be coloured by club ties.
“I look at football from the point of view of the ball and not a shield of emblem. I am not a fanatic,” he said.
