Atletico Madrid midfielder Diego Ribas believes the Vicente Calderon support will play a factor in the weekend’s Madrid derby.
Atleti host Real Madrid on Sunday and go into the game trailing the League leaders by three points.
Diego spoke at a Press conference prior to the fixture and said the atmosphere generated by the Calderon can push Atletico towards victory.
“It will be very difficult, as it always is in the League, but especially against a big team like Madrid,” Diego said.
“But we are prepared to but in a good performance. We have our fans with us and we are certainly stronger in the Calderon.
“The details, the concentration and the small things [are the key to winning].
“Because there will be so few opportunities in the game being focused for 90 minutes will make the difference.
“The team that does that the best will surely win the game.”
Diego returned to Atletico in January and added the fervour of the Calderon is one of the things he appreciates most about the club.
“It’s hard to put into words. It’s very special,” Diego continued.
“I am proud and happy to be part of a great team like Atletico, especially in a derby.
“It is a special atmosphere and I’ll try to enjoy every minute, because it’s great, and not just for the fans.
“For us players to have an environment like that is wonderful.”
