Cerezo: Diego Costa unlikely to leave

Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo has claimed that Diego Costa won’t be leaving the club in the summer.

The striker has been touted as one of the hottest properties in Europe this season, after impressing as Radamel Falcao’s replacement at Vicente Calderon.

However, the Rojiblancos chief has insisted that the Brazil-born forward is unlikely to leave at the end of the season, and won’t be used as a ‘bargaining chip’ to bring Thibaut Courtois in permanently.

“I do not think Diego Costa will leave us at the end of the coming year,” he told reporters.

“Unquestionably, we do not want to sell him or use him as a bargaining chip for another player.

“Atletico is a company which, for its proper functioning, must sell each year.

“However, we believe in this case we can keep our players at least one more season.”

Costa has been heavily linked with a switch to Premier League side Chelsea.
