Rakitic targeting home win

Sevilla captain Ivan Rakitic believes his side will have to beat Maribor at home to stay in the Europa League.

Los Rojiblancos drew 2-2 with the Slovenians in Thursday’s away tie and while a draw could in theory see them progress on away goals, Rakitic wants to win at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Speaking to reporters after the match, the Croatia international added that Sevilla did well to recover from a poor first half showing.

“Our second half was a lot better,” Rakitic said.

“We were a lot calmer after we took the lead and we were in control, only for a shot from outside the area to level the game.

“No one’s to blame for that, it’s just one of those things.

“I think in general we’ve done a good job and got a positive result.

“Now we want to win at home, play well and rely only on ourselves. We’ll go for them in the second leg and try to win the game.”
