Reports in Argentina have said Atletico Madrid are close to signing 18-year-old Angel Correa, dubbed the ‘new Sergio Aguero’.
A price tag of €11.6m has been mooted for the San Lorenzo forward, who has also attracted attention from Valencia and, according to the British Press, Manchester City.
A Buenos Aires-based radio station has however said Los Colchoneros will sign Correa this summer and, if both David Villa and Diego Costa remain at the club, loan the forward back to his current club.
Correa formerly played under current Valencia Coach Juan Antonio Pizzi and it is thought that Pizzi could attempt to use his relationship with Correa to steer him to Mestalla.
But San Lorenzo’s President, Matias Lemmens, has confirmed Atletico’s interest.
“Some clubs, among them Atletico, have shown a real interest [in Correa],” Lemmens said.
Atletico were Aguero’s first port of call after leaving Independiente, the current City forward moving to Vicente Calderon at 17.
