Pellegrini: Barca not just Messi

Manuel Pellegrini has claimed that there are players other than Lionel Messi that can cause his Manchester City side problems.

The Etihad outfit host the Blaugrana in their Champions League Last 16 first leg this evening.

And with the Argentine sensation back from injury, the Coach has warned that he will be a threat – but not the only one.

“Messi will be difficult to stop, yes, he is a top player of the world, he has a lot of different things,” Pellegrini told a Press conference.

“But I don’t think Barcelona is Messi. You can have Messi tight and other players will decide the game.

“This is a big test for us, but that's what you expect in the Last 16 of the Champions League. We are having a good season, but now the important games are coming up.

“Barça are a unique team and so it's important that we beat them at home. Barça do not play an ordinary style of football.

“They are Cup finalists, leaders in the league and still in the Champions League. They are probably the best team in the world. It's a massive game for both teams. The tactical aspect will be key.

“We will see later the way we are going to play. I believe in the style of play but you can make changes and play in different ways. You will see later the same team you see every week, although we cannot afford to forget about players like Messi or many of the others.”

The Chilean tactician then commented on the City fans, as well as Sergio Aguero’s absence through injury.

“The fans will have a great night tomorrow, but they've been supporting us all season, they like the way we play.

“Of course, 15 years ago the team were in the third division, but now is a time to enjoy ourselves.

“Sergio is not in the squad, although maybe he'll be back in time for next weekend. Not having him available is a big disadvantage.”
