Miranda reveals Spain contact

Atletico Madrid defender Joao Miranda has claimed that he was sounded out by Spain to play for the national team.

The 29-year-old has been virtually ever-present for the Rojiblancos this season, impressing at the back with the capital club sitting at the top of the table.

And the centre-back has revealed that La Roja assistant Toni Grande has been in touch about representing his adopted country.

However, Grande was unaware that Miranda has played nine times for Brazil, including an appearance at the 2009 Confederations Cup.

“They enquired in passing,” he told ESPN Brazil. “They wanted information about my past, but I don’t have that possibility [playing for Spain].”
