Valencia confirm Otamendi signing

Nicolas Otamendi will become a Valencia player at the end of the season after Los Che confirmed the purchase of the Porto defender.

Porto revealed to the authorities in Portugal that they will receive €12m plus add-ons for the Argentina international, with Otamendi signing a five-year contract at the Mestalla.

Valencia’s sporting director Rufete is quoted by Marca as welcoming Otamendi to the club.

“We have a great squad already and we’re convinced Otamendi will help us be better for next season, because he’s a world class player.

“He’s a strategic addition to our project and we’re delighted he’s chosen Valencia, when many other clubs wanted to sign him.

“Otamendi’s arrival is great news for all Valencia fans and for the future of our team.”

Otamendi added that he was excited to play for a club with the stature of Valencia.

“After playing for a club like Porto, a very big prestigious and big one, it is an honour to join Valencia, one of the most historic in Spain and Europe. I am very happy for this step in my career.

“I know Argentines have been an important part in the history of Valencia.

“Wearing the same shirt as Mario Kempes, Roberto Ayala, Pablo Aimar and many of my idols is a responsibility I take with great joy and enthusiasm.”
