Nicolas Otamendi felt Valencia were fully deserving of their 2-1 victory over Real Madrid on Sunday. “Kudos to the team who trained all week for this.”
The defender was crucial to Los Che hopes in ending Madrid’s 22-game winning streak, having made two match-saving interventions and scoring his side’s elusive second goal midway through the second half.
“These are three important points. It’s a good start to 2015. We started the year as we ended the previous,” he told reporters after the match.
“Kudos to the team who trained all week for this. We also played the last game of 2014 in the same way.
“The truth is that, despite having young players, we have players with experience and, despite the warnings, we were up to par.”
