Courtois wants to be No.1

Thibaut Courtois doesn’t want to return to Chelsea if it means playing second fiddle to Petr Cech.

Courtois has been on loan at Atletico Madrid since 2011, playing more than 100 games for Los Colchoneros.

His latest term at Vicente Calderon is due to expire this summer but his father has been quoted in the British Press as saying the goalkeeper doesn’t want to be a back-up player at Stamford Bridge.

“Jose Mourinho has told Thibaut that he's expecting him back in the summer,” Thierry Courtois said.

“Cech is in place at the moment. On paper you could alternate the two of them, but it's not the type of situation we are looking for.

“With the level Thibaut is at now, there is no way he will go to a club and be second choice.”
