Ronaldo set for three game ban?

Cristiano Ronaldo could be banned for the next three league games after being sent off on Sunday evening.

The Real Madrid forward was shown a straight red card against Athletic Bilbao last night, with the attacker allegedly raising his hand at Carlos Gurpegi.

That controversial decision would ordinarily see him miss one match – Los Blancos’ home game with Villarreal.

However, the referee’s report has suggested that Ronaldo may have made a gesture to the fourth official whilst coming off, which could bump his ban up to three games.

“In the 75th minute the player [seven] Dos Santos Aveiro, Cristiano Ronaldo, was sent off for the following reason: hitting an opponent in the face with his hand, while play was stopped," the report said.

“After having been sent off the No. 7 of Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo Dos Santos Aveiro, while he was leaving the pitch, struck himself various times with the palm of his hand in the face, directing this to the fourth official.”

If League authorities did decide that the Ballon d’Or winner disrespected the official, then he will also miss domestic matches with Getafe and Elche.

Real Madrid are likely to appeal any decision however.
