Emery ruing missed opportunity

Sevilla Coach Unai Emery believes his side blew a chance for a welcome away win by losing to Malaga at La Rosaleda.

The visitors went behind in the first-half but goals from Carlos Bacca and Federico Fazio saw Sevilla take the lead, only for Malaga to come from behind and take the points.

Emery wasn’t particularly impressed with his side’s performance and told reporters that his players were unable to handle the opposition.

“We were beneath them for the majority of the match,” Emery said.

“We weren’t able to get forward, although we did have some chances, like the one from Reyes.

“That could have changed the game.

“But because of the way Malaga were playing we wanted to match them but we couldn’t.

“In the second-half we had a good 20 minutes were we took control with two goals and leading 2-1 gave us piece of mind.

“But we couldn’t stop Malaga’s drive.

“We lost out on a good opportunity and that makes me sad, but I’m already thinking about the next game.”

There was an incident between the two benches towards the end of the game and Emery revealed he wanted the game to carry on regardless.

“I wanted them to play on but it’s part of the game. There’s nothing more to it and in the end we were the ones adversely affected.”
