Ronaldo: Ballon d’Or for everyone

Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted it was ‘a lovely moment’ presenting the Ballon d’Or trophy to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Portugal international was handed the Golden Ball at a ceremony on the pitch yesterday before Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Granada.

And the attacker has conceded it was a great moment for him.

“It was nothing out of the ordinary. Agustín [Herrerín, Real Madrid’s veteran pitch side delegate] has been here for 20 years and for me it was an honour to offer him the trophy,” he told AS.

“It was a lovely moment. It was all a bit of a surprise for him. But it shows that the Ballon d’Or is for everybody – the team, the fans and the older folk. For everyone in the Madridista family.”

Ronaldo then commented on his spectacular overhead kick, which was saved by El Grana goalkeeper Roberto.

“It was bad luck it didn’t go in, because with how fast the ball was going, if the keeper was on the other side it would have gone in, but he was exactly where the ball was.

“But it’s in the past now. It would have been one of the best goals of my career but I’m happy because I was able to score another one.”
